Pointy is a free Chrome extension that shows what your points and miles are really worth. It adds a value badge to each hotel and flight on the booking site, as you search.

Two London hotels in an IHG search, each with a Pointy badge beside its points price. The Welbeck Hotel: 0.75¢, rated excellent, with its tooltip open showing $479 cash a night, converted from 361 GBP, against 64,333 points, so $479 ÷ 64,333 × 100 = 0.75¢. Staybridge Suites London Vauxhall: 99,333 points a night, 0.45¢, rated poor.

Each bar counts the hotels at that value in cents per point, in the colour of its rating. Further right is better.
  1. A rated badge on every result

Each hotel shows what a point is worth on it, in cents, rated from Excellent to Poor.

  2. The full calculation on hover

Cash and points per night, the totals, and the currency conversion, worked through to the value.

  3. Every hotel in one chart

See how all the results on the page spread out, so you know a good redemption when you see one.

How it works

  1. Search with points, where you already book

Pointy reads the points and cash prices already on the page, so there’s nothing to type and nothing new to learn.

Some sites show cash and award prices in separate views. Load both, in either order, and Pointy pairs them up.

  2. Read the badge

Each result with both a cash and a points price gets a badge with its value in cents per point: the cash price ÷ the points price × 100. Higher is better.

  3. Handles all the special fees

Award prices are rarely a clean points-for-cash swap. Pointy manages all the details:

    • Currency: other currencies are converted to US dollars at a daily rate.
    • Taxes: Pointy uses the price with taxes included wherever the site shows one.
    • Resort and destination fees: taken off the cash price, because you pay them either way.
    • Award taxes on flights: taken off the cash price the same way.
    • Round trips and multi-night stays: values compare whole stays, and both legs of a round trip.
Pointy’s tooltip for an Etihad Abu Dhabi to New York economy fare: cash $1,118, converted from 4,105 AED at 0.2723; 60,000 points plus a $290 copay, converted from 1,065 AED; value 1.38¢, worked out as ($1,118 − $290) ÷ 60,000 × 100.
An Etihad fare priced in dirhams. Both the fare and the award taxes are converted to dollars, and the taxes come off the cash side.
  4. See every result ranked

Pin Pointy to Chrome’s toolbar. Its icon shows what it found on the page:

Click the icon for the page’s results ranked by value, how the values are spread, and your own typical values.

  5. Private by design

Prices, searches and your value history stay on your device, and ratings are computed there. You can wipe the history anytime with Delete history in Settings. Details are in our privacy policy.
